Value Bets This Weekend: Five Prices the Bookmakers Have Got Wrong

This is the column I enjoy writing most. A value bet is not a tip on who will win — it is a bet where I think the bookmaker's price is bigger than the true chance of it happening. Back enough of those and the maths is on your side over time. Here are five prices from this weekend's coupon that look wrong to me.

Bayern Munich away from home are priced as if travel matters. It does not: they have won their last nine away league games. Anything around 8/13 (1.62) or bigger for the away win is value in my model.

Two organised, slow-paced sides meet in Italy on Saturday evening. Their last six head-to-heads produced nine goals in total. Under 2.5 goals at around 4/5 (1.80) should be shorter.

Regular readers know Dimitri follows Panathinaikos closely, and the numbers back his optimism this week. At home against a side with one away win all season, the home win at around 4/6 (1.67) is the strongest value on the Greek coupon.

Two of the division's top six meet on Sunday, and both have scored in nine of their last ten league games. Both teams to score at around 10/11 (1.91) is a fair price made generous.

The Swedish season has finished, so no bet there — but a note for next spring: Hammarby's home prices were consistently too big all autumn, and I expect the same when the 2027 season starts. One to file away.
